Dave Honl added to the National Faculty
August 1, 2008 by Jeff Gritchen
PRESENTATION:
David Honl will share his small flash location lighting techniques with FSC attendees. For the past 4 years, he has covered assignments in Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, and Kazakhstan, where he has led the charge for small, lightweight location lighting.
BIOGRAPHY:
David Honl’s first assignment was in 1976, at age 11, photographing his family’s cross country trip to Disneyland with a 126 Kodak Instamatic given to him by his Dad.
In his 22+ year career, he has been published by Newsweek, The New York Times, French Elle, American Cinematographer, National Geographic and countless others.
With a passion for international news and conflict, he has been covering the war in Iraq from his home base in Istanbul, covering the Sadaam Hussein trial, the killing of Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, and the little-seen
inner workings of Baghdad’s Green Zone. Before relocating to Los Angeles this year, David completed several assignments in Kazakhstan, most notably a story on the non-proliferation of the former Soviet Union’s largest and most secretive biological weapons factory in Stepnogorsk.
David is represented by Zuma Press.
2008 brings David back to the U.S., where he has designed and developed his exclusive line of HonlPhoto lighting tools for small flash location photography.
